First stop: Bali

All the way from Buenos Aires, Josefina got us in touch with Lucas, who lives with his family in Canggu. We reached out to him and he helped us with all the information we needed, he recommended a hotel and he even sent his driver to pick us up at the airport. When we arrived he came over to meet us and took Artur to get a scooter rental. What better way to welcome us than this? We felt at home immediately and Lucas, Rosina and Cata have become our friends, even more than friends, they are our family in Bali.

Whenever you get to a place for the very first time, absolutely everything translates into a new experience, the language, the food, the culture, its people, their traditions, everything. It's quite a challenge and it requires that your senses be "on" at all levels, because we didn't want to miss a thing of everything new that we were discovering, besides, we felt the adrenaline generated by having left our home, our family and friends. Everything was brand new, but we were ready for it, it's the kind of experience we had set out to find.

Because we believe that everything can be discovered, we went out on a walk to do just that, but walking wasn't an easy task in Bali. We walked and got to the beach, an unbelievable beach, such an unimaginable paradise! Because Canggu is such a beautiful place, but the beach is not like those of white sands and deep blue waters. Surfing is the thing to do there, so that's what we did, we signed up to take surfing classes with the best of teachers! Surfing could be compared to life itself, you learn to surf and get your balance with whatever 'wave' life brings your way. We fell one thousand times, but the moment we felt we were literally standing on top of the wave, sort of controlling the wave and enjoying the ride, all the waves that turned us upside down and made us fall were so worth it.

Little by little, we discovered every corner of that part of the island. We had once been to Bali for our honeymoon, but we had never been to Canggu. and truthfully, we fell in love with Canggu. We realized that unintentionally, we were doing everything we loved: yoga, surf, the kids were playing with friends and attending an amazing school, we were going to the beach, eating delicious foods, we felt at home. The weather is warm, and so we only needed light clothing, we're usually barefoot and that feeling of constantly being on vacation was liberating.

While in Bali, we made so many new friends and we realized that a place is what it is because of its people. Along the way, we met people that one way or another had something in common with us. We felt at home in so many ways, this was the start of our new life.

We stayed in Canggu for two months. We stayed in a hotel for the first week. Then, we found a rental of two rooms at the house of an American named Mark who lived in Bali who was usually away. So we rented those two rooms on the second floor of the house which had access to a gorgeous terrace. During our two month stay, we got to go around the whole island. Everything was an adventure. As we do in each new place we visit, we make each place our home. I think that someone from up above sent that amazing house our way, so nobody (and by this I mean Camila) would have reason to complain.

We rented a scooter, although I had no idea of how to drive one, so Artur taught me how to, and it wasn't an easy thing to do, but within a week we are all behind the wheel. When we got to Bali and saw a family of four riding on one motorcycle, we thought they were crazy!, within a couple of days, the four of us were riding on a single motorcycle! Driving in Bali is chaotic, but at least it seems to be an organized kind of chaos because I never heard anyone blowing their horns, not even once. We were going about our daily routines of surfing classes, yoga, the children were in school, our work, and during our free time we'd set out to know every nook and cranny of the island. Every spot of the island was different, each one had its own magic.

Bali might be an island, but it's an island that has everything you could think of, and diversity that abounds. If you'd like to get more information as to what to do there, where to stay, where to go, restaurants, and those kinds of things that everyone wants to know about, shoot us an e-mail!

WE. LOVE. BALI.
